The Blushing Bride: Somdatta (Rai) Sengupta
Hello everyone,
I am back today with my favourite section
of the blog, “Blushing Brides” and today with me I have one of my sweetest
friends, Somdatta (Rai) Sengupta. We are school buddies and the feeling
I got upon hearing her wedding news was truly something indescribable. But I
was so stupid to miss her wedding and I will never forgive my boss for that.
Anyway, jumping to today’s topic, here she
is to share her beautiful journey with the man of her life. She got married on
1st February this year in Kolkata, so lots of tips for brides from Calcutta.
So let’s catch a glimpse of her wedding
story.
How did you guys meet?
Well, 1st time we actually got introduced to each other was around 2002 (I was in class 7 and he in class 11). Few days of childhood friendship, then got caught up by studies, moved to new cities, college, university...... Long break, contact got cut off (due to no social media or much of cell phone access in those days) Cut to 2013, I returned to Kolkata after graduation, suddenly saw him (we live in the same neighbourhood), accidentally got connected in facebook; long story short - fell head over heels in a span of few days (we still wonder exactly when did we fall for each other).

So how long did you
get to plan your entire wedding?
Actually we got hardly 1 full month. It was very hectic and tough to pull off since I hardly had any help (friends and cousins out of town, couldn't come in such a short notice). The next date was 1 yr later and my grandmother (on mother's side who actually brought me up) had an accident and was in critical state so we had to take the former date. Unfortunately grandmother passed away and after all rituals, we hardly had 1 month to prep up.

Tell us something
about where you got your outfits and accessories, both wedding and reception?
For Wedding and Reception Jewelry, gold new ones from Senco Gold (Garia and Shulekha) Kolkata, and the rest were inherited. Mangtika, payal and belt were silver from a local jeweler (Swarnatori, Naktala) beside my home. Nose ring was costume jewelry from South City Mall basement (forgot the name of the shop). Groom's ring was from Anjali Jewelers, Garia. Other Accessories are from Metro and Inc.5, South City.

Wedding
Outfit was a traditional heavy weight (super heavy, omg!) Pink (kinda
dudhe-alta pink) Katan Silk benarasi with zardosi work from Rangoli, Triangular
Park (didn't plan to buy it from there since we bengalis always have an eye
for traditional stores for benarasis, but while looking for some kanjivaram and
south silk in that area, suddenly got a glance of this benarasi and instantly
fell in love with it).
Reception outfit was a raw silk neon pink lehenga
with an orange dupatta from Mohey (Manyavar, Triangular
Park).
Where did you get
your makeup and hair done?
Make up and hair for wedding was done by makeup artist Sumanta Bhattacharjee and his team and for reception, makeup and hair was done by makeup artist Suman Ganguly and his team.

Tell us something
about your photographer?
I had a horrible experience with my photographer so the photographers from my in-laws side came to last minute rescue - APertures Photography, Howrah. (Really grateful to them).

Any special moment you want to share
with us?
Can't point out any particular moment because from the day our families met and the date was fixed, till Dwiragomon, were filled with special moments. The days flew like a blink of an eye. Days full of events, everything happened so fast with loads of people surrounding us, it was a very overwhelming feeling.

Any advice you want to all the readers
out there?
First of all, get enough sleep and stay well hydrated. Then comes the outfits and accessories to be worn throughout those days - needs to be super comfy. Choose good quality products for hair and makeup, better not to experiment with new stuff. Keep DIY fixtures like scissors, pins, thread and needle etc handy along with face wipes, cotton, basic first-aid etc. Lastly, just go with the flow, try to have a bestie or a cousin stick to you like a glue. Let go of all worries (atleast try), and enjoy.

What DeckandDine says:-
Red has been the age old traditional color in weddings and not many have the courage to ditch it. I loved the fact that she chose to go unconventional and she totally nailed it. I loved both the reception and wedding looks. Pretty, elegant and she looked gorgeous. Her makeup was clean, so that the focus remains on her attire and jewellery.

The combination of “dudhe-alta” and gold is
terrific. The choice of lehenga too was perfect. Thank God she didn’t get
carried away by the “blue lehenga trend”.
Lastly, I would like to wish my sweetheart, Rai and Saumitra
da
lifelong happiness. May the light of your love always glow upon
your
marriage!!!
